Frequently Asked Questions

DSC United Recreational Soccer FAQ

Q:  When does the 2012 Fall season start?

A:   Opening Day will be Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 with opening day festivities being held at Westvale Field.  The season runs for the next 8 to 9 weeks with no less than 8 games.

Q:  What if my child has another obligation during the week, and is unavailable to practice?

A:  During registration, there is a place to indicate which evening of the week your child has a conflict.  We will try to avoid placing them on a team that practices on the conflict night.

Q:  Can my child be on a team with a friend?

A:  We cannot guarantee that any child will get to play with another child, as there will be a coaches’ draft where the coaches select players  We try to balance the ages of the kids across the teams to have balanced competition.  We always try to keep twins together whenever possible, unless requested otherwise (please let us know!).

Q:  What do I need to buy for my child to play soccer?

A:  Your child will be given a team t-shirt or jersey by their coach on opening day (Sept. 8, 2012) .  They should have their own shin guards, shorts (we recommend black) and proper soccer cleats.  Players should also bring their own water to practice. Note that baseball and football cleats are NOT permitted in soccer, as they have an extra cleat on the toe, which prevents proper kicking and adds an additional risk of injury.  Per FIFA Law 4, no jewelry may be worn during a soccer match or practice, except for emergency medical bracelets and necklaces.  Please note that earrings of any size are prohibited as well.

Q:  When are practices and games?

A:  The first practices and games will be held the week starting after Sept. 8, 2012, one practice a week and one game on Saturdays or Sundays.

Q:  When will I find out the exact days and location of practice?

A:  We will not know the day of practice until after registration closes, and we know how many kids, teams, and fields we have to work with.  This is typically finalized at the end of August.

Q:  When does registration close?

A:  Regular registration closes on Saturday, June 30, 2012 and late registration closes on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.  We cannot extend beyond this date since we must turn our rosters, with player names, in to our insurance.  Players that register after June 30, 2012 will not be guaranteed a roster spot.   Last year, we were filled to capacity, so please register early.

Q:  My child has a food allergy.  Who do I notify?

A:  The parent/guardian should indicate this on the registration form.  Additionally, the coach should be notified once you’re assigned to a team.  Coaches should then notify the other team parents of this allergy.
